Inclusive Economy Lab Stable Home Stable Schools
In Minneapolis, one in five children have experienced homelessness or are at risk for eviction. Housing insecurity has a negative impact on children's physical and mental well-being and their education and economic outcomes. Longer-term, it can have a detrimental impact on their financial stability as adults.
Stable Homes Stable Schools (SHSS) is a partnership between Minneapolis Public Schools, the Minneapolis Housing Authority, and others, to reduce homelessness among families with elementary-aged kids. The program takes a holistic approach to addressing homelessness through prevention efforts like emergency assistance and intervention efforts like multi-year rental assistance.
In partnership with researchers from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and University of Minnesota, the Inclusive Economy Lab will evaluate the impact of school-based housing assistance on students.
