Michael Greenstone is Milton Friedman Professor in the Department of Economics and the College at the University of Chicago and the director of the Energy Policy Institute at Chicago (EPIC).
His research estimates the costs and benefits of environmental quality and society's energy choices. Greenstone is a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Having served as the chief economist for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers early in the Obama administration, Greenstone has extensive policy experience. He has served as an editor of the Review of Economics and Statistics and on the EPA Science Advisory Board’s Environmental Economics Advisory Committee.
