Safer Futures is a mixed-methods study led by Health Lab and the University of Chicago Trauma Center, investigating how gun violence affects young men’s ability to plan their futures on Chicago’s South Side. We assess how firearm injuries and exposure to gun violence affect residents’ decisions about pursuing education and skills, what economists call human capital investment.
