Poverty Lab College Success Indicator

At the high school level, early warning data systems have helped schools successfully identify ninth graders who are not on track to graduate in four years. These systems have been instrumental in improving high school graduation rates in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and other urban districts around the country. The Poverty Lab is testing this model in postsecondary contexts using data on all CPS graduates, regardless of where they enroll in high school. The Poverty Lab is using innovative tools from the field of machine learning to strengthen the early indicator model, and such efforts could improve the precision with which colleges identify struggling students to better target available resources and support systems.
